St John at Hackney

Centre of a Historic Borough

Hackney’s fascinating, modern, local museum, housed in the new Hackney library, tells the story of Hackney, from the Saxons to C21. On the same square are Hackney’s Art Deco town hall and the Hackney Empire, one of London’s finest music hall theatres, where Charlie Chaplin, Marie Lloyd and Lillie Langtry performed.

On to a fine 18th century church with splendid monuments and a 13th century tower, symbol of the borough, fine Regency architecture and the Grade II* listed Round Chapel. Include a visit to Sutton House, Inner London’s only Tudor house, with King Henry VIII, Queens Mary Tudor, Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots associations, where you can stay for tea and visit.
