Buckingham Palace from St James's Park

Poets, Parliament & Palaces

Westminster takes its name from its Abbey, scene of every Coronation from William the Conqueror; also royal funerals, including Princess Diana’s and royal weddings, including HM Queen Elizabeth II and, more recently, William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Take a time-check with Big Ben, admire the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), stroll along Whitehall, seat of government - see the Prime Minister’s Downing Street residence, Horse Guards Parade and the site of execution of King Charles I.

To the north of Trafalgar Square, London’s official centre, stands the National Gallery and to the west The Mall leads past palaces, monuments and St James’s Park to Buckingham Palace, where you might catch the Changing the Guard.
